Hawks rally for 1-1 deadlock against KC Roos

A goal late in the first half helped give Rockhurst a 1-1 tie with Missouri-Kansas City an exhibition game Saturday night at UMKC's Durwood Stadium.

Senior midfielder Matthew Carey found the nets from eight yards out off a vertical pass from Chase Klusman with 3:08 left in the opening half. UMKC took a 1-0 lead with a goal from Carson Lindsey on a header shot off a corner kick in the 21st minute.

The Roos outshot the Hawks, 15-6. Elluan Martins Gomes led Rockhurst with two shots on goal. Adam Burnett and Tomasso Tirabassi each had a shot on goal.

Senior goalkeeper Fabio D'Errico finished with three saves in the first half. Senior keeper Peter Baker held the Roos scoreless in the second half.

Rockhurst will play two more exhibition games, at Newman (Aug. 28) and at Missouri State (Aug. 29), before opening the 2021 regular season on Sept. 2 at Rogers State.
