Lexie Storrer threw the second perfect game in school history to lead Rockhurst to a 14-0 victory over Maryville in the opening game in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament Thursday morning in East Peoria, Illinois.
Storrer (20-4) retired all 15 batters she faced in the five-inning run-rule victory while striking out nine Saints. Bridgette Sappington pitched the first perfect game in school history against Maryville in 2017.
Lauren Marks and
Emily Clark combined for eight hits, three home runs and 12 RBIs to lead the 16-hit attack.
The Hawks scored four runs in the first inning on an RBI double by Clark and a three-run home run by Marks. Clark hit a three-run home run in the second and Marks went deep to center with a solo shot in the third to give Rockhurst an 8-0 lead.
Josie Lindemann, Marks and
Clare Reinhart each drove in runs in the fourth to widen the lead to 11-0. An RBI single by Clark and a two-run RBI single by Marks capped the scoring in the fifth.
Marks finished with four hits and seven RBIs. Clark posted four hits and five RBIs.
Allison Shakiba and
Gwen Bostick added two hits apiece.
Rockhurst (25-14) moves into the winner's bracket and will play seventh-ranked Indianapolis (38-5) at 11:00 a.m. Friday.
