Storrer strikes out 11 in 4-1 win over Jewell

Led by the pitching of Lexie Storrer, the Rockhurst softball team posted a 4-1 victory over William Jewell in the first game of a conference doubleheader Friday in Liberty, Missouri.

Storrer held the Cardinals to one run on three hits while striking out 11 in posting her 18th victory of the season.

The Hawks scored two runs in the fifth inning on a wild pitch and a run-scoring single by Emily Clark. Lauren Marks and Allison Shakiba added solo home runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

Shelby Winkelman led the 10-hit attack with three hits. Shakiba and Gwen Bostick each had two hits.

Jewell came back to win the second game, 12-3. The Cardinals scored three runs in the fourth to take a 6-3 lead and crossed the plate six times in the fifth.

Clare Reinhart led the Hawks with a pair of run-scoring singles in the first and third. Marks added an RBI single in the first.

Rockhurst (23-13, 16-10 GLVC) next plays at Truman State on Saturday, May 1.
