Hawks score early in 2-1 win over USI Eagles

The Rockhurst women's soccer team returned to win column on Sunday with a 2-1 victory over Southern Indiana at RU's Bourke Field.

Alex Moss and McKenna Leetch gave the Hawks a 2-0 lead with first-half goals with a strong wind behind their back.

Moss scored on a free kick from 35 yards out in the ninth minute. Leetch headed in a shot just inside the right post off a left cross from Jillian Leetch. Greta Seal also assisted on the Hawks' second goal in the 29th minute.

The Eagles got on the scoreboard early in the second half on a shot from six yards out from Morgan Beyer.

The Hawks posted nine shots and five shots on goal. Southern Indiana finished with 13 shots and five shots on goal.

Haley Schroeder led the Hawks with two shots on goal. RU goalie Megan Meyers posted four saves, including three in the second half.

Rockhurst (4-2-2) play at Indianapolis on Friday night.
