Hawks sweep Missouri S&T at home

The Rockhurst Hawks combined for 17 runs in a doubleheader sweep in softball over Missouri S&T Saturday on Senior Day at RU's Loyola Park.

Rockhurst begin the day with a 10-1 win over the Miners in a run-ruled five-inning game. The Hawks scored four runs in the second inning, three in the third and three more in the fifth.

Maya Gallagher led the 10-hit attack with two hits, including a two-run double in the third. Lauren Marks gave the Hawks a 4-1 lead with a three-run home run in the second. Shelby Winkelman hit a solo homer and Cassie Coltvet added a two-run double in the fifth.

Lexie Storrer improved her record to 7-1 while holding the Miners to one hit over five innings while striking 10.

Emily Clark and Calli Wibbenmeyer powered the Hawks to a 7-5 victory in the second game. Clark hit a three-run homer in the third and Wibbenmeyer capped the scoring with an RBI triple in the sixth.

Wibbenmeyer collected three of the Hawks' 10 hits. Allison Shakiba doubled home a run in the third and Gwen Bostick added an RBI single in the fifth.

Olivia Prather (3-2) held the Miners scoreless on one hit with two strikeouts over the first four innings.

Rockhurst (10-4, 5-1 GLVC) hosts Maryville at noon on Sunday.
