Hawks throw pair of shutouts at home

The Rockhurst softball team opened conference play with a pair of shutout wins over Southwest Baptist Thursday at RU's Loyola Park.

Lexie Storrer improved her record to 5-0 with a 7-0 win in Game One. Storrer held the Bearcats to three hits over five innings while striking out five.

Shelby Winkelman led the offense with two hits and three RBIs. She singled home two runs in the first inning and added an RBI single in the fourth.

Emily Clark homered to left-center field in the third. Calli Wibbenmeyer and Gwen Bostick posted run-scoring singles in the fourth and sixth.

Olivia Prather pitched a complete game one-hitter in a 3-0 win in Game Two. The Bearcats got their only hit with a leadoff single in the seventh.

The Hawks scored an unearned run in the second and scored two runs in the third on a double by Winkelman.

Rockhurst (7-3, 2-0 GLVC) will now play at Drury on Tuesday, March 16, beginning at 4 p.m.
