McKendree holds off Hawks in final 10 minutes

McKendree jumped out to a 12-point halftime lead and survived a Rockhurst rally in the second half to post a 62-55 victory over the Hawks Thursday night at RU's Mason-Halpin Field House.

The loss dropped the Hawks to seventh place in the GLVC Points Rating System with a 7-6 record.

Rockhurst took a 13-10 lead after the first quarter. McKendree end the first half on a 14-2 run to take a 36-24 halftime lead.

The Hawks rallied to take a pair of one-point leads in the third quarter. McKendree held Rockhurst scoreless in the first 5:23 in the fourth quarter in taking a 53-45 lead. The Hawks were held to 11 points on 3-of-21 shooting in the final 10 minutes.

Daly Sullivan led the Hawks with 16 points on six-of-10 shooting. Keegan Sullivan tallied seven points and 10 rebounds. Monika Faerber, Lani Thompson and Hailey Dolphin combined for 18 points and nine rebounds.

The Hawks shot 44.7 percent from the field (21 of 47) and 44.4 percent from the foul line (eight of 19). Rockhurst outscored the Tritons in the paint, 26-20.

McKendree, 5-10, connected on 21-of-50 field goals (42.0 percent) and 16-of-23 free throws (69.6 percent). Junior guard Sydney Diekhoff led the Bearcats with 14 points and four steals.

Rockhurst will host 23rd-ranked Southern Indiana on Saturday.
