Rockhurst settles for tie in season opener

Rockhurst settled for a 1-1 tie against Southwest Baptist in the Hawks' season opener Friday at Bourke Field.

Alexis House gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute when she scored off a pass from Elle Guttmann. The Bearcats scored the tying goal in the 59th minute.

Goalkeeper Megan Meyers posted five saves in 110 minutes. She made two saves in both the first and second halves, while collecting her fifth save in the second overtime period.

Rockhurst outshot SBU, 21-15. Hannah Byrne and Guttmann each posted four shots to lead the Hawks. House and Mallory Mumby both had three shots. Greta Seal and Alex Moss added two shots apiece.

The Hawks (0-0-1) play at Drury on Sunday.
