Second-half shooting leads Bearcats over Hawks

Northwest Missouri State shot 54.2 percent from the field in the second half to pull away for a 73-63 victory over Rockhurst in the Washburn Thanksgiving Classic Friday in Topeka, Kansas.

The Bearcats went on a 12-3 run to take a 61-51 lead with 7:19 left in the game. The Hawks could not get closer than seven down the stretch.

Rockhurst closed the first half on a 14-5 run to tie the score at 33-33 at halftime. Molly Hummel scored nine of RU's 25 points in the second quarter.

Daly Sullivan led the Hawks with 18 points, including 11 in the second half. Hummel finished with 17 points and five rebounds. Rebeca Garcia collected 11 points, seven rebounds and two blocks off the bench.

Rockhurst scored 24 points in the paint while shooting 37.3 percent from the field (19 of 51). The Hawks outrebounded the Peacocks, 34-28.

Northwest Missouri, 3-1, made 26-of-55 field goals (47.3 percent). Mallory McConkey led the Bearcats with 21 points and eight rebounds.
