Hawks play two games in Topeka this weekend

Molly Hummel collected 16 points and 10 rebounds at Upper Iowa.
The Rockhurst women's basketball team travels to Topeka, Kansas this weekend to play two games in the Washburn Thanksgiving Classic. The Hawks (1-0) will meet Northwest Missouri State at 1 p.m. Friday and then face Washburn on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Rockhurst opened the season with a 78-64 victory at Upper Iowa last Friday. Keegan Sullivan led the Hawks with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Molly Hummel added 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Northwest Missouri (2-1) is coming off a 68-48 victory over Missouri S&T on Monday. Evelyn Vaszquez led the Bearcats with 13 points.

The Hawks won their last meeting with Northwest Missouri, 62-47, in St. Joseph, Missouri in 2017. The two teams have split their last four meetings since 2006.

Washburn (1-2), which plays Winona State on Friday, fell at home to Benedictine 64-61 on Nov. 17. Senior guard Hunter Bentley leads the Lady Blues with an 11.0 scoring average.

The Lady Blues have won nine of the last 10 meetings with Rockhurst. The Hawks won the most recent encounter, 86-79, in Kansas City in 2019. Washburn leads the all-time series 16-4.
