Women open season with win at Upper Iowa

Keegan Sullivan posted 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead Rockhurst to a 78-64 season-opening victory over Upper Iowa Friday night in Fayette, Iowa.

The Hawks jumped out to a 40-30 halftime lead while connecting on 17 of 36 field goals. Rockhurst ended the first half on a 7-2 run.

The Peacocks pulled within seven points, 51-44, in the third quarter. Rockhurst ended the third period on a 9-3 run to take a 13-point lead into the final 10 minutes.

Keegan Sullivan and Molly Hummel combined for 12 points in the fourth quarter to secure the road victory.

Hummel finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks. Daly Sullivan collected 11 points and four assists. Ella Wedergren and Meghan Urbanski combined for 17 points. Reagan Dodd and Rebeca Garcia combined for 12 rebounds.

Rockhurst scored 34 points in the paint while shooting 45.2 percent from the field (28 of 62). The Hawks outrebounded the Peacocks, 44-37.

Upper Iowa, 1-2, made 24-of-66 field goals (36.4 percent). Jessica Musgrave led the Peacocks with 17 points.
