Seniors lead Hawks to 3-2 season-ending win

Matteo Ruggieri and Jimmy Choinka scored goals in their final home games to lead Rockhurst a 3-2 victory on Senior Day over Truman State Sunday at Bourke Field.

Ruggieri found the upper left corner of the net from 22 yards out in the 18th minute. The senior forward scored his second goal of the season with assists from Riley Dubbs and senior forward Jacob Weaver.

Choinka gave the Hawks a 3-1 lead when the senior defender converted on a penalty kick in the 80th minute for his first career goal.

Freshman defender Ben Macinnes scored his first goal of the season in the 42nd minute on a 15-yard shot to put the Hawks in front 2-0. Choinka and senior forward Collin Chrun assisted on the goal.

The Hawks finished with 12 shots and five shots on goal. Weaver led the team with two shots and one shot on goal. Senior goalkeeper Peter Baker posted three saves, two in the first half and one in the second half.

Rockhurst ends the season with a 6-11-1 overall record and 5-8-1 league mark.
