Prairie Stars edge Hawks behind penalty kick

Illinois Springfield connected on a penalty kick in the second half to edge the Rockhurst men, 2-1, in a game that was called in the 72nd minute due to dangerous weather conditions Sunday in Springfield, Illinois.

Marvin Zott took advantage of a foul in the box to give the Prairie Stars the go-head goal on a penalty kick in the 63rd minute.

Freshman defender Jeremiah Musa gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute. Musa got past his defender and knocked in a shot from six yards out off a long pass from Blake Mann.

Springfield (10-3-1, 9-1-1) tied the score seven minutes later. The Prairie Stars ended up with 13 shots.

Rockhurst finished with six shots and three shots on goal. Tomasso Tirabassi led the Hawks with two shots. Jordan Andrews and Jimmy Choinka each had a shot on goal.

Senior goalkeeper Fabio D'Errico posted four saves, two in the first half and two in the second half.

Rockhurst (4-11-1, 3-8-1 GLVC) returns home to play William Jewell on Friday.
