Hawks suffer home loss to SBU Bearcats

Southwest Baptist scored 20 points in the final six minutes to pull away for a 77-67 victory over Rockhurst Monday night at RU's Mason-Halpin Field House.

The Bearcats took the lead for good at 59-58 at the 5:37 mark. SBU ended the game on a 7-0 run after the Hawks pulled within 70-67 on a layup by Molly Hummel with 1:11 left.

Rockhurst took a 36-31 lead into halftime and jumped out to a 43-33 lead midway through the third quarter. SBU ended the period on a 18-8 run to tie the score at 51-all going into the fourth quarter.

Freshman Keegan Sullivan led the Hawks with 21 points, six rebounds and four assists. Molly Hummel posted 12 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Lani Thompson tallied 10 points and five rebounds.

The Hawks shot 41.5 percent from the field (22 of 53) and 79.2 percent from the foul line (19 of 24). Rockhurst outscored the Bearcats in the paint, 34-22.

SBU, 3-8, made 19-of-51 field goals (37.3 percent) and 32-of-40 free throws (80.0 percent). Senior guard Kyleigh Vaught led the Bearcats with 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Rockhurst, 5-4, travels to Lindenwood on Thursday night.
