Fourth-quarter outburst carries Hawks past Missouri S&T

Rockhurst dominated in the final 10 minutes to pull away for an 82-57 victory over Missouri S&T in the Hawks' first game in over five weeks Thursday night at RU's Mason-Halpin Field House.

The Hawks outscored the Miners 28-5 in the fourth period after S&T cut Rockhurst's lead to two points, 54-52, going into the fourth period.

Daly and Keegan Sullivan combined for 16 points in the fourth quarter. The Sullivan sisters made six-of-seven field goals as the Hawks shot 62.5 percent in the final period.

The Miners went on a 15-0 run in the third quarter to tie the score at 45-all with 4:55 left in the period. S&T held the Hawks to 13 points on 30.8 percent shooting in the third period.

Rockhurst scored the first seven points in the fourth quarter and added a 14-0 run to take a 75-54 lead with 3:39 left in the game.

Daly Sullivan led the Hawks with 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Freshman Haley Wiskur scored 16 points (12 in the first half) on seven-of-nine shooting.

Molly Hummel posted 13 points and five rebounds. Keegan Sullivan finished with 10 points and four rebounds. Monika Faerber added seven rebounds and three steals.

The Hawks shot 47.7 percent from the field (31 of 65) and 34.8 percent from behind the 3-point line (eight of 23). Rockhurst outscored S&T 40-2 in the paint and outrebounded the Miners, 43-31.

S&T, 2-10, connected on 20-of-59 field goals (33.9 percent) and 11-of-19 free throws (68.8 percent). Junior guard Laura Rodriguez led the Miners with 18 points and six rebounds.

Rockhurst, 5-2, will host Maryville on Saturday afternoon.
