Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Strong first half powers Hawks past Mountain Lions

The Rockhurst Hawks scored seven unanswered goals to open Sunday's game against Colorado-Colorado Springs, and held on to earn their first win of the season by a score of 12-7.

Marianna Anderson and Helen Krause each scored two goals during the 7-0 run, helping the Hawks open up an 11-2 lead at the half.

The Mountain Lions would pull within five at 11-6 and 12-7, but Rockhurst locked in defensively in the final 10 minutes to secure the victory.

Anderson and Krause tied for the team lead with three goals apiece. Audrey Ford and Clare Goessling added two goals each, while Logan Derosia and Addison Bradley rounded out the scoring.

The Hawks defense rose to the occasion, led by goalie Emily Duff who played all 60 minutes, racking up 12 saves.

Rockhurst caused 15 turnovers, led by Mackenzie Blair (four caused turnovers) and Spud Ring (three CTs). Blair, Krause and Olivia Collier each tallied four ground balls. Anderson finished with a game-high five draw controls.

It was a strong performance all around for Coach Molly McCourt's team against a former RMAC foe. The Hawks (1-2) will look to carry momentum from this win into Thursday's contest at Oklahoma Baptist.
