Hawks shoot down Jewell, 77-67, in home opener

Behind the hot shooting from Jessina Rada and Daly Sullivan, Rockhurst posted a 67-57 victory over William Jewell in the Hawks' home opener Thursday night at RU's Mason-Halpin Field House.

Rada led the Hawks with a career-high 21 points on six-of-12 shooting, including five-of-10 from behind the three-point line. She scored 12 points in the second half, including hitting four free throws in the fourth quarter.

Sullivan scored 16 points on seven-of-14 shooting and made four steals. She hit a buzzer-beating shot from just beyond the mid-court line to give the Hawks a 41-35 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Keegan Sullivan scored nine points in 16 minutes before leaving the game with an injury late in the third quarter. Molly Hummel posted seven points and eight rebounds. Monika Faerber and Lani Thompson combined for 15 rebounds.

The Hawks led 28-23 at halftime and opened the second half on an 8-0 run to take a 36-23 lead. The Cardinals never got closer than five in the fourth quarter.

Rockhurst shot 40 percent from the field (22 of 55) and 68.2 percent from the foul line (15 of 22). The Hawks outrebounded Jewell, 43-30.

Jewell (1-2) connected on 20-of-56 field goals (35.7 percent). Kiara Bradley led the Cardinals with 22 points.

The Hawks (2-1) play at Missouri S&T on Saturday at 1 p.m.
