Lewis holds off late charge by Hawks

Paige Pendley and Madeline Ronshausen combined for 40 points Thursday night, but Rockhurst's comeback at Lewis fell short, as the Flyers won 85-74 in Romeoville, Illinois.

Pendley scored a team-high 21 points on eight-of-14 shooting from the floor and three-of-seven from three-point range. Ronshausen (19 points) converted seven-of-14 field goals, including three-of-six from beyond the arc. Meghan Urbanski and Daly Sullivan also reached double figures, each tallying 10 points on four-of-eight shooting.

A pair of baskets from Ronshausen kept the Hawks within five early in the second quarter, but a 12-2 Flyer run saw the home team stretch the lead to 33-18. A Sullivan jumper in the final minute of the first half pulled the Hawks back within single digits at 39-30.

Late in the third quarter, a 7-0 Lewis run gave the Flyers their largest lead of the game at 56-39. Rockhurst battled back in the fourth, cutting the lead to eight at 77-69 on an Urbanski layup and foul. The Flyers were able to stave off the Rockhurst run, holding on for an 11-point victory.

Rockhurst minimized turnovers (10) and shot well from the outside, connecting on eight-of-19 three-pointers (42.1 percent), but a hot shooting night from the home team -- 31-for-56 from the field (55.4 percent) -- propelled the Flyers offensively.

The Hawks (6-5, 1-3 GLVC) are back in action Saturday at Illinois Springfield (1:00 p.m.).
