Hawks earn conference road win over UIS

The Rockhurst Hawks notched their first GLVC road win of the 2019-20 campaign Saturday, rallying to beat Illinois Springfield 75-68.

Tied 49-49 after three quarters, the Hawks surged ahead with a 14-5 run, sparked by eight points from Madeline Ronshausen. The Prairie Stars responded with an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to one with just over three minutes remaining, but the Hawks were able to salt the game away at the foul line, converting eight-of-10 free throws down the stretch.

Ronshausen and Paige Pendley led the Hawks with 16 points apiece, shooting a combined five-of-seven from three-point range. Pendley pulled down a team-high eight rebounds as the freshman from Elgin, Oklahoma continues to bring great energy to Coach Larry Park's rotation.

Senior Lauren Krissman added 11 points, while sophomore guard Meghan Urbanski tallied nine points, six rebounds and a team-high four assists. The duo combined to shoot six-of-six from the foul line.

Reagan Dodd and Hailey Dolphin added seven points each, while Rachel Holden (six points) and Daly Sullivan (three points) rounded out the scoring.

The Hawks started fast, scoring eight of the game's first 10 points. The Prairie Stars settled in and took a seven-point lead early in the second quarter quarter after a 22-9 run. But it was the Ronshausen and Pendley show the rest of the way.

The Hawks came up big from three-point range, shooting 10-for-22 (45.5 percent) and converted 21-of-27 free throws (77.8 percent).

Rockhurst improves to 7-5 overall and 2-3 in the GLVC. The Hawks return home to host Saint Mary on Monday (5:30 p.m.).
