First-half run carries Truman past Hawks

Truman State scored 15 unanswered points in the first half to pull away for a 91-70 victory over Rockhurst Saturday at RU's Mason-Halpin Field House.

Rockhurst jumped out to a 17-12 lead late in the first quarter as the Hawks connected on seven of their first 12 field goals. Truman ended the first period on an 11-0 run and scored the first four points of the second quarter.

The Bulldogs opened the second half on a 15-4 run and outscored the Hawks 27-12 in the third quarter. Rockhurst scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter to cut Truman's lead to 69-57. The Bulldogs closed the game on a 17-9 run.

Freshman guard Paige Pendley led the Hawks with 13 points on five-of-nine shooting. Madeline Ronshausen posted 12 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Hailey Dolphin tallied nine points and five rebounds off the bench. Daly Sullivan and Meghan Urbanski combined for 14 points and four assists.  Molly Hummel, Lauren Krissman and Lani Thompson combined for 18 points and 13 rebounds. Rachel Holden had a game-high four blocked shots.

Rockhurst shot 39.4 percent from the field and 73.3 percent on free throws. Truman (7-3, 3-0 GLVC) scored 56 points in the paint and hit 50 percent from the field.

The Hawks (6-4, 1-2 GLVC) play at Lewis and Illinois Springfield next week.
