The Rockhurst Hawks erased a 22-point deficit to force overtime vs. Maryville, but late free throws lifted the Saints to an 81-80 victory Saturday afternoon at Mason-Halpin Field House.
Trailing 80-78, Maryville's Mary Barton (29 points) converted three-of-three free throws with 2.7 seconds left to put the Saints in front.Â
Madeline Ronshausen missed a long three for the Hawks as time expired.
Despite early foul trouble and just three points at halftime, Ronshausen finished the game with 25 points on eight-of-15 from the field, including five-of-nine from three. The senior leader willed the Hawks back into the game, adding a team-high seven assists and tying for the team lead in rebounds with seven.
Paige Pendley also played a pivotal role in the comeback for Rockhurst, who trailed by 22 at halftime and by 20 after three quarters, 56-36. The freshman from Elgin, Oklahoma scored 18 points, including 10-of-13 from the foul line, while adding seven rebounds.

A Pendley free throw in overtime gave the Hawks a 72-71 advantage, their first lead since 3-0 in the opening minute. Rockhurst controlled much of the extra period and led 79-75 after a pair of
Daly Sullivan free throws, but the Saints rallied for six of the game's final seven points.
Lauren Krissman finished with 13 points and five rebounds, while also defending well during the Hawks' comeback, battling Barton, the GLVC's leading scorer, and tallying four steals.
Freshman forwardÂ
Molly Hummel added 11 points, three blocks and three steals, while Sullivan finished with eight points.
Rockhurst made 11 three-pointers and shot an efficient 23-of-28 from the foul line. The Hawks outrebounded the Saints 45-36, fighting all 45 minutes, but the comeback fell one point short.
