Ronshausen powers Hawks past Miners

The Rockhurst Hawks, led by another outstanding performance from Madeline Ronshausen, defeated Missouri S&T, 85-70, Thursday night in Rolla, Missouri.

The sharp-shooting senior from St. Louis matched her career-high of 32 points (22 in the second half), shooting six-of-11 from three-point range and a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line. Ronshausen has now scored 87 points in her last three games, including a red-hot 20-of-35 from beyond the arc (57.1 percent).

Fellow senior Lauren Krissman energized the Hawks with 13 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Meghan Urbanski matched Krissman's 13 points and pulled in a team-high seven rebounds. Daly Sullivan added nine points for Rockhurst.

The Hawks led 17-11 after one quarter after a 7-0 run, started by a Reagan Dodd three-pointer. The Miners battled back to take a 27-25 lead midway through the second quarter, but the Hawks responded with back-to-back threes from Ronshausen and Sullivan.

Tied 31-31 at the break, Ronshausen exploded for 15 points in third quarter, including a pair of threes on the Hawks' first two possessions. Rockhurst would stretch the lead as high as 11 in the quarter, but the Miners pulled back within six heading into the final period.

The Hawks opened the fourth quarter on a 17-6 run, as consecutive threes from Urbanski and Sullivan pushed the advantage to 76-59, the largest lead of the game. Strong free-throw shooting in the closing minutes eliminated any chance of a Miner comeback. The Hawks finished 16-of-18 from the foul line (88.9 percent).

Coach Larry Park's team was efficient from all levels, finishing 28-of-60 from the floor (46.7 percent), including 13-of-28 from three (46.4 percent). The Hawks earned a 39-27 rebound advantage, playing with great energy all game.

The Hawks (9-8, 3-6 GLVC) will look to maintain that effort Saturday when they return home to take on Maryville (1:00 p.m.).
