Big run leads Jewell past Rockhurst, 75-66

A William Jewell run of 28-7 helped the Cardinals escape Mason-Halpin Field House with a 75-66 win over Rockhurst Monday night.

Back-to-back three-pointers from Daly Sullivan and Lauren Krissman gave Rockhurst a 28-16 lead early in the second quarter, but Jewell would quickly kick it into high gear. The Cardinals ended the first half on a 19-7 run, and then scored the first nine points of the third quarter to take a 44-35 lead.

The Hawks battled back, led by senior star Madeline Ronshausen, who finished with a season-high 29 points, including seven-of-11 from three-point range. Rockhurst leveled the score at 48-all after a pair of Ronshausen three-pointers, and would regain the lead, 50-48, after a Molly Hummel jumper on the next possession.

Jewell weathered the storm, scoring the final six points of the third quarter, and Rockhurst would not lead again the rest of the way. The Hawks tied the score on two occasions in the fourth --- 60-60 and 63-63 -- as Ronshausen refused to let Rockhurst go quietly into the night. But Jewell answered the bell each time, led by Kiara Bradley's 28 points and 12 rebounds.

Paige Pendley scored 13 points for the Hawks, including two-of-four from beyond the arc. Krissman tallied seven points and Sullivan added six as the Hawks converted 12-of-26 three-pointers.

Rockhurst (8-8, 2-6 GLVC) will look to bounce back Thursday at Missouri S&T (5:30 p.m.).
