Hot shooting carries McKendree past Hawks

A hot-shooting day powered McKendree to a 74-48 win over Rockhurst Saturday afternoon at Mason-Halpin Field House.

The Bearcats shot an impressive 27-for-50 from the field (54 percent) and 15-for-17 from the foul line (88.2 percent).

Rockhurst trailed 20-11 after one quarter, but back-to-back three-pointers from Reagan Dodd and Meghan Urbanski pulled the Hawks within three early in the second.

However, McKendree regrouped quickly and found themselves in control the rest of the way.

Lani Thompson led the Hawks in points (10) and rebounds (four). The freshman forward from St. Louis was a perfect four-of-four from the free-throw line and added a pair of three-pointers.

Fellow freshman and St. Louis native Molly Hummel scored six points, making her first career start in place of Madeline Ronshausen, who missed the game due to injury. Cassidy Moss chipped in five points, while Lauren Garrison and Jessina Rada each added four points.

Rockhurst (8-7, 2-5 GLVC) will look to bounce back Monday, as the Hawks host William Jewell  at 5:30 p.m.
