Early goals carry Hawks to 2-0 win at Missouri Western

McKenna Leetch scored two goals in the first half to lead the Rockhurst women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Missouri Western Sunday in the Stoney Creek Hotel Classic in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Leetch, last year's GLVC Co-Freshman of the Year, scored in the fourth minute to give the Hawks an early lead. The sophomore midfielder drilled a shot from 20 yards out off a pass from midfielder Elle Guttmann.

Less than five minutes later, Leetch scored her second goal on header from six yards out off a cross from Jillian Leetch.

Rockhurst finished with 36 shots, including 20 shots on goal as the Missouri Western keeper made 18 saves. The Griffons were held to five shots.

Stephanie Ostrander and Jillian Leetch each posted six shots to lead the Hawks. Hannah Lauer collected five shots and freshman Lauren Cousins added four shots. McKenna Leetch and Mary Koeller each had three shots.

Sophomore keeper Megan Meyers finished with four saves.

The Hawks (2-0) open conference play at home against William Jewell next Sunday afternoon.
