Hawks improve to 5-0 with win over Quincy

A pair of first half goals lifted Rockhurst to a 2-0 win over Quincy Sunday afternoon at Bourke Field, as the Hawks improve to 5-0 and 3-0 in the GLVC.

Freshman Greta Seal got the Hawks on the board midway through the first half with a rocket from 20 yards out that snuck inside the left post.

Hannah Byrne doubled the lead with just over 14 minutes to play in the half, putting in a rebound from six yards out after Haley Schroeder sliced through the Quincy defense.

The Hawks threatened in the second half, but Quincy goalkeeper Emilee Autry kept the visitors within two with a couple impressive saves; one on a leaping effort off a well-struck ball from Rockhurst's free kick specialist Cathy Rometti. The Hawks had two more goals negated by offsides calls as Coach Greg Herdlick's squad kept their foot on the gas for all 90 minutes, controlling possession and creating chances.

Rockhurst held an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal and earned seven corner kicks to Quincy's four. Hawks' goalie Rosie Breheny posted a clean sheet, improving her record to 4-0 on the year.

The Hawks put their undefeated record on the line with a pair of road games next weekend -- Friday, Sep. 27 at Southwest Baptist, and Sunday, Sep. 29 at Drury.
