Late goal gives Hawks a 2-1 win over Truman State

Senior defender Cathy Rometti scored on a direct kick from 30 yards out to give the unbeaten Rockhurst women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Truman State Friday night at Bourke Field.

Rometti's game-winning goal came in the 76th minute to break a 1-1 deadlock. It was her first goal of the season and her fourth career goal.

The Hawks tied the score at 1-1 late in the first half when Hannah Byrne scored from six yards out off a pass from junior defender Caroline Romme with 55 seconds left before halftime. Truman took a 1-0 lead three minutes earlier on a rebound shot from four yards out.

Rockhurst (4-0, 2-0 GLVC) finished with 22 shots, including 12 shots on goal as Truman keeper Beth Hopwood made 10 saves. The Bulldogs (1-2-1, 1-1 GLVC) posted 10 shots.

Jillian Leetch and Greta Seal each posted four shots to lead the Hawks. Mary Koeller added three shots. Sophomore keeper Megan Meyers finished with four saves.

The Hawks close out the weekend with a home match against Quincy Sunday afternoon.
