Late run leads Hawks into GLVC tourney finals

Drake O'Neill led the Hawks with six goals and one assist.

Box Score Drake O'Neill scored seven points to lead 14th-ranked Rockhurst to an 18-13 victory over Maryville in the semifinals of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament Friday in Indianapolis.

The Hawks (12-3) will face top-seeded Indianapolis in the finals of the GLVC Tournament at 1 p.m. EST. Sunday.

O'Neill scored three of his game-high six goals in a 7-0 run, giving the Hawks a 17-10 lead with six minutes left in the game.

Neither team led by more than two goals in the first 48 minutes. The Saints scored early in the fourth period to tie the score at 10-10. John Myran broke the deadlock with a goal and O'Neill proceeded to score the next three goals to give the Hawks a 14-10 lead.

Sam Lindahl finished with six points on two goals and four assists. Collin Fischer, Kai Trujillo and Will Tegenkamp each scored two goals. Myran scored three points on one goals and two assists. Sal Valdivia won 18-of-20 faceoffs and collected 10 ground balls. Zach Bodeau had 10 faceoff wins and seven ground balls. Alex Pfeil posted 13 saves.

Rockhurst outshot Maryville, 63-37. O'Neill led the Hawks with 15 shots. Lindahl posted nine shots, Fischer had seven shots and Blake Bellinger added six shots.
