The Lewis Flyers swept both games from. Rockhurst in Monday's doubleheader in Rosemont, Illinois, by scores of 8-0 and 5-4.
The Hawks struggled in game one as
Calli Wibbenmeyer collected Rockhurst's lone hit in a great performance from Flyers pitcher Cassie Shaw.
The bats woke up in game two with the Hawks starting fast, jumping ahead 3-0 in the top of the first. Wibbenmeyer doubled home
Emily Truitt and
Hanna Stam. Then
Lauren Marks traded places with Wibbenmeyer, driving in the third run of the inning with a double.
Lewis got on the board with a solo home run in the fourth inning, cutting the lead to two. The Flyers kept the pressure on in the fifth, evening the score at 3-3.
Rockhurst regained the lead in the top of the seventh when Stam drew a bases loaded walk, scoring
Shelby Winkelman. But the Flyers responded in the bottom half as Dara Sanders plated two on a walk-off double.
Truitt finished the game two-for-four with a run scored. Wibbenmeyer added to her team-leading RBI total, driving in runs 33 and 34 of the season.
Monday's doubleheader concludes a difficult stretch of six games in six days, traveling form Wichita, Kansas to Indianapolis to Chicago. The Hawks (20-19, 7-11 GLVC) head to St. Louis this weekend for doubleheaders with Missouri-St. Louis Friday and Maryville Saturday.
