Rockhurst opened its Florida trip with a 3-1 win over Bloomfield College, as a
Lauren Marks two-run home run made the difference.
Trailing 1-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth, Marks turned the one-run deficit into a one-run lead with one swing of the bat. The home run to center field plated
Emily Clark, who led off the inning with a ground-rule double. The Hawks weren't done yet, as
Emily Truitt singled home
Payton Staggs to cap the three-run rally in the fourth.
The 3-1 score held as
Olivia Prather (five innings pitched, one earned run, two strikeouts) and
Paige Renner (two IP, zero ER, two K) mowed through the Bearcat lineup.
Truitt finished the game two-for-three with the aforementioned RBI.
Hanna Stam,
Calli Wibbenmeyer and
Katie Wood each added to the Hawks' seven hits as well.
Rockhurst dropped its second game of the day to Cedarville University, 4-1.
The Hawks (8-5) return to action in Florida Saturday morning vs. Lake Erie College (9:00 a.m. CST) and Franklin Pierce University (11:15 a.m.).
