The Rockhurst Hawks edged Truman State, 4-3, in the second game of a doubleheader Monday afternoon behind an
Emily Clark three-run home run.
Clark's homer down the left field line put the Hawks ahead 3-0 in the top of the third inning as
Megan Freitag and
Shelby Winkelman scored on the biggest hit of the game.
Truman would get on the board in the bottom of the fourth, cutting the deficit to 3-1. The Hawks added what would prove to be a big insurance run in the sixth as Winkelman scored on an
Emily Truitt single.
The Bulldogs trailed 4-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh, and would cut the lead to 4-3 and load the bases before Hawks' pitcher
Shannon Greene shut the door on the rally and sealed the Rockhurst victory.
The Hawks had six players with one hit apiece. Greene notched her 11th win of the season, allowing the three runs on 10 hits through seven innings.
The Hawks lost their first game of the day, 1-0. With the sweep Sunday and the split Monday, the Hawks open GLVC play with a record of 3-1.
Rockhurst returns home this weekend to take on Missouri S&T Saturday and Drury Sunday (12:00 and 2:00 p.m. both days).
