Hawks rally for 7-6 win over No. 16 Prairie Stars

Rockhurst scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to rally for a 7-6 victory over 16th-ranked Illinois Springfield in the first game of a conference doubleheader Saturday at the Urban Youth Academy in Kansas City, Missouri.

Nathan Mark drove home Noah Huston with the winning run with a sacrifice fly to right field. Joe Specht started the one-out rally with a pinch-hit double to left center. Tommy Kraus doubled home Specht and Alex Van Pelt tied the score at 6-6 with an RBI single to right center.

Van Pelt led the Hawks with two hits and two RBIs. Van Pelt homered over the right-field fence to tie the score at 3-3 in the third.

Garrett McNally and Craig Straws also posted two hits. Jonathan Fink (1-2) pitched the last two innings to get the win out of the bullpen.

Springfield came back to win the second game, 14-5, behind 13 hits and eight walks. The Prairie Stars scored four runs in the first and iced the victory with five runs in the eighth.

Kraus led the 11-hit Rockhurst attack with four hits. Huston collected three hits and two RBIs. Mark added drove in two runs with a single in the third.

Jack Eisenbarger (1-3) allowed six runs on six hits in 5.0 innings with three walks and three strikeouts.

The Hawks (4-12, 1-4 GLVC) close out the series against Springfield at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Urban Youth Academy.
