The Rockhurst softball team picked up their 10th and 11th wins of the season Tuesday, defeating Northwood, 5-2, and Sioux Falls, 6-1, in Leesburg, Florida.
In game one against Northwood, the Hawks trailed 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning, before rallying for three runs, highlighted by a
Lauren Marks two-run homer, to take the lead.
Rockhurst would add an insurance run in the sixth inning as
Emily Clark drove in
Hanna Stam, and pitcher
Shannon Greene kept Northwood off the board the final two frames.
Paige Renner (3.2 innings pitched, one earned run, two hits, five strikeouts) and Greene (3.1 IP, one ER, four hits, two K) caged the Timberwolves with strong pitching performances.
Marks finished game one two-for-three with the two RBIs from the home run and two runs scored. Stam was one-for-three with a walk and one run scored.
In game two, Rockhurst jumped out to a 6-0 lead, highlighted by a four-run fourth inning.
Katie Wood,
Shelby Winkelman and Stam all singled in the rally. Wood finished the game two-for-three with two RBI.
Greene earned her second win of the day and eighth of the season, pitching all seven innings, with one earned run on four hits and five strikeouts.
Rockhurst suffered a pair of losses on Monday, falling to St. Cloud State, 8-2, and Post University, 7-6. Stam and
Calli Wibbenmeyer each had two hits against St. Cloud State.
Payton Staggs led the Hawks with three hits and an RBI vs. Post.
Emily Truitt,
Katie Wood and Stam had two hits apiece.
