The Rockhurst men's tennis team split their six singles matches and picked up a point in doubles to defeat Illinois Springfield, 4-3, Sunday morning at the Clayview Country Club indoor courts in Liberty, Missouri.
Santiago Rodriguez Villegas and
Martijn Eleveld won both their singles and doubles matches. Rodriguez Villegas won in two sets in No. 4 singles and teamed with Alex Barnadas to win in No. 3 doubles by a 6-2 score. Eleveld, a transfer from Barton College, was a two-set winner in No. 5 singles and won in No. 2 doubles with teammate
Tarass Thevenaz, 6-3.
Maseo Perret was a winner in No. 2 singles in three sets. He won the last two sets, 6-1 and 6-4. Perret and
Nicolas Leon lost their No. 1 doubles match, 6-1.
On Friday, the Hawks fell short by a 4-3 score to McKendree in Liberty as the Bearcats picked up a point with wins in No. 1 and 3 doubles. Perret and Eleveld both won in three sets in No. 2 and 5 singles. Leon won in two sets in No. 3 singles.
The Hawks (4-2) play at Emporia State on Saturday, March 2.
