Hawks cruise past Jewell behind big first half

Rockhurst opened up a 28-point halftime advantage in cruising to an 88-63 win at William Jewell Saturday afternoon.

The Hawks shot 71 percent (10-of-14) from the floor in the first quarter as they jumped out to a 23-8 lead. They defended well and crashed the glass in the second quarter as well, holding Jewell to five points and taking a 41-13 lead into the break.

Madeline Ronshausen scored a game-high 26 points, going five-of-seven from beyond the arc and nine-of-12 from the foul line.

Briahtia Sebek poured in 18 points, including four-of-six from 3-point range. Reagan Dodd added 11 points and seven rebounds. Kaci German tallied nine points and eight rebounds. Tracy Monahan chipped in seven points and seven boards. Lauren Krissman dished out a game-high eight assists, while adding six points and five rebounds.

Coming out of halftime, there was no letdown with the Hawks' intensity level. They attacked the basket, getting to the free throw line 25 times in the second half.

Jewell heated up in the second half, but the Hawks kept the Cardinals at arm's length, as Rockhurst's impressive shooting continued.
