A furious second half comeback by Rockhurst fell short as Concordia-St. Paul scored the winning goal in the final minute to edge the Hawks 12-11 in their home opener Friday night at RU's Bourke Field.
The Hawks rallied from a 10-4 deficit with 25:10 left to play to tie the score at 11-11 at the 1:48 mark on a free position goal by
Olivia Collier.
Concordia-St. Paul took advantage of a Rockhurst turnover to score the game winner with 40 seconds left on a shot by Mary Keating, who assisted on four earlier goals.
The Golden Bears led 7-4 at halftime and scored the first three goals in the second half. CSP outshot Rockhurst, 32-30, and forced the Hawks into 21 turnovers.
Logan Derosia led the Hawks with three goals (on eight shots) and five draw controls.
Marianna Anderson tallied two goals (on eight shots) and six draw controls.
Audrey Ford posted two goals and two caused turnovers.
Hannah Miller and Collier each finished with two goals.
Hanna Meek had a team-high three ground balls. Freshman goalie
Molly Dunham posted 10 saves.
