Rockhurst's dream season fell one game short of reaching the NCAA national championship match Friday night in Denver, Colorado. Second-ranked Nebraska-Kearney held off the Hawks for a 3-1 victory in the semifinals of the NCAA Division II National Championships.

The Hawks end their season with a 33-8 record, while the UNK Lopers (38-0) will go after their first national title against No. 1-ranked Cal State San Bernardino (32-0) on Saturday.

Kearney won the first set 25-23 after Rockhurst rallied to tie the score at 23-all. The Hawks came back to even the match with a 26-24 win in the second set. The Lopers won the third set, 25-22, and closed out the match with a 25-19 win in the fourth set.

"We just made a few too many mistakes. We knew Kearney was going to be a tough out. You can't make that many mistakes because they don't need our help scoring points," said Rockhurst coach Tracy Rietzke.

Rockhurst's three senior attackers combined for 41 of the Hawks' 61 kills. Alyssa Woodman led the Hawks with 15 kills and 16 digs. Karli Reichert collected 13 kills, 10 digs and seven blocks. Mary Rolf tallied 13 kills and six blocks.

Justice Wingate posted 10 kills and seven blocks. Audrey Arand had seven kills, 12 digs and four blocks. Jadyn Makovicka finished with a team-high 31 digs. Dani Prusha totaled 51 assists and 17 digs.
