Hawks' comeback falls short at Trevecca Nazarene

The Rockhurst Hawks fell to Trevecca Nazarene, 84-75, on the final day of the Pops Duncan Classic in Nashville, Tennessee.

Meghan Urbanski, Madeline Ronshausen and Daly Sullivan combined for 51 points on the day, highlighted by a big third quarter in which the Hawks outscored the Trojans 29-19. But Rockhurst couldn't quite get over the hump as Trevecca Nazarene held on for a nine-point victory.

A Ronshausen layup at the 30-second mark in the first quarter gave the Hawks a 17-15 lead heading into the first break. Trevecca led 29-26 early in the second quarter and extended the lead with an 11-2 run to go up 40-28. A Sullivan 3-pointer and an Urbanski layup pulled the Hawks back within seven at the half, 40-33.

Trailing 47-40 in the third quarter, a 7-0 Rockhurst run, sparked by five points from Ronshuasen, helped the Hawks even the score. A Reagan Dodd three-pointer at the 2:35 mark in the third quarter gave the Hawks their first lead of the second half at 56-55. Rockhurst would take a 62-59 lead into the final frame.

The Trojans surged ahead early in the fourth quarter when a 12-2 run put the home team ahead, 71-64. The Hawks ran out of gas as Trevecca led the rest of way and was able to close out the victory.

Urbanski finished with a team-high 19 points on eight-of-10 from the floor. Ronshausen tallied 16 points, including five-of-six from the foul line, while adding four steals. Sullivan poured in 16 points on seven-of-12 from the field and added five rebounds. Paige Pendley and Lauren Krissman tied for the team lead in assists with three apiece. Rachel Holden pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

The Hawks return to the court on Nov. 19 for an exhibition game at UMKC.
