Second-half run carries Roos past Hawks

The Rockhurst Hawks fell to the Kansas City Roos, 78-60, in Tuesday night's exhibition game at the Swinney Recreation Center.

Daly Sullivan scored a team-high 12 points for Rockhurst on three-of-five from the floor, including a pair of three-pointers. Lauren Krissman added 10 points and four rebounds. Sullivan and Krissman each collected three assists and were both four-of-four from the foul line. As a team, the Hawks converted 14-of-14 free throws.

Freshman guard Paige Pendley provided a spark, scoring nine points in 10 minutes. Madeline Ronshausen scored seven points and posted team-highs in both steals (five) and assists (four). Freshman forward Molly Hummel chipped in six points on three-of-four from the field. Reagan Dodd and Lani Thompson each pulled down four rebounds, tying Krissman for the team lead.

The Roos threw the first punch, scoring the game's first 10 points and stretching their first quarter lead to 16 at 19-3. The Hawks came alive with a 21-5 response to even the score at 24. The run included 3-pointers from Meghan Urbanski, Sullivan and Thompson. Rockhurst would take its first lead of the game, 33-31, after a Krissman steal and layup at the 2:32 mark in the second quarter.

The Roos took a narrow 37-35 lead at halftime and gained separation in the third quarter where they outscored the Hawks 22-8. Rockhurst pulled back within nine in the fourth quarter, but could not get over the hump as Kansas City closed out the victory on their home court.

In addition to Rockhurst's perfect night at the foul line, Coach Larry Park's team found success inside the arc, converting 14-of-30 two-pointers (46.7 percent). The Hawks will host Ottawa in their home opener on Wednesday (5:30 p.m.).
