Offense carries Hawks to 3-2 win at Missouri S&T

A Federico Verlicchi goal in the 83rd minute lifted Rockhurst to a 3-2 victory at Missouri S&T Sunday afternoon in Rolla, Missouri.

Verlicchi's goal -- the second of the day for the Porto Corisni, Italy native -- came shortly after S&T leveled the score at 2-2 and appeared to regain momentum in the 79th minute.

Verlicchi opened the scoring just four and a half minutes into the first half, beating the Miners' keeper to the upper right corner, giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead.

S&T responded in the 13th minute to even the score at one goal apiece. Pablo Salvador Lopez gave Rockhurst a 2-1 advantage later in the first half, with a low shot inside the right post. Victor Gonzalez assisted on both of the Hawks' first half goals. The score remained 2-1 until the aforementioned S&T equalizer before Verlicchi's game-winner.

Gonzalez, Jackson Wood, and Chase Klusman each put shots on goal for Rockhurst. Goalkeeper Peter Baker racked up six saves, earning his third win in net this season for the Hawks.

Rockhurst improves to 4-4-1 with the win (4-3 GLVC). The Hawks return home to take on McKendree on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
