Hawks host conference front-runner McKendree

First place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference women's soccer standings will be on the line when Rockhurst hosts the 17th-ranked McKendree Bearcats Friday at 1:45 p.m.

McKendree (8-1-1) holds a half-game lead over Rockhurst for first place in the GLVC with a 5-0-1 league mark. The Bearcats are riding a four-game winning streak while posting shutout wins over Missouri-St. Louis, Lindenwood, Drury and Southwest Baptist.

The Bearcats have outscored their opponents 14-5. McKendree has won three of its last four meetings with Rockhurst. The Hawks blanked the Bearcats 2-0 last year at McKendree.

Rockhurst (8-1, 6-1 GLVC) has scored a league-high 21 goals, while allowing nine goals. Jillian Leetch leads the team with 11 points on four goals and three assists. Leetch scored the winning goal in overtime in the Hawks' 1-0 win at Missouri S&T last Sunday.

The Hawks received votes in this week's United Soccer Coaches Division II poll and were ranked fifth in the Midwest Regional coaches' poll behind Grand Valley State, McKendree, Ashland and Ferris State.

On Sunday, the Hawks will host Southern Indiana (7-2, 5-2 GLVC) in a noon start. Rockhurst holds a 12-2-2 advantage all-time over the Screaming Eagles. Last year's meeting ended in a 1-1 tie at USI.

Both matches will be streamed for free on the Great Lakes Valley Conference Sports Network (GLVCSN.com).
