Hawks head to St. Louis to take on UMSL, Maryville

Rachel Holden has been one of the best rim protectors in the GLVC, averaging 1.13 blocks per game.
The Rockhurst women's basketball team travels to the opposite end of the Show Me State, visiting Missouri-St. Louis (Thursday, 5:30 p.m.) and Maryville (Saturday, 1:00 p.m.) The Hawks had a tough time last week, falling to Indianapolis and Lewis, but will look to regain the form they showed in an impressive win over Bellarmine on January 19.

Madeline Ronshausen continues her strong junior campaign, averaging 16.2 points per game, third-best in the GLVC. Briahtia Sebek ranks fifth in the conference in 3-point field goal percentage at 43.3 percent. The sharp-shooting senior torched UIndy for a career-high 25 points last week, including five-of-seven on 3-pointers and a perfect six-of-six from the foul line.

Rockhurst leads the GLVC in 3-point percentage, shooting 38.1 percent as a team from beyond the arc. On the other end of the floor, Rachel Holden remains among the league leaders in blocks, recording 1.13 per game, fifth-best in the GLVC.

The UMSL Tritons enter Thursday's contest with a record of 9-9 (3-6 GLVC). UMSL knocked off Maryville, 61-59, in its previous game, which could be a momentum building win as the Tritons look to elevate themselves into the mix for a conference tournament bid. UMSL's defense, allowing 63.9 ppg, can keep them in any game.

Offensively, the Tritons are led by the inside-out duo of Arielle Jackson (14.9 pg) and Alex LaPorta (11.1 pg). Jackson is a volume 3-point shooter, connecting on 34-of-107 triples this season, while LaPorta does the majority of her damage in the paint.

Maryville will be a tough test on Saturday as the Saints enter this week with a record of 12-6 (6-3 GLVC). Their 59-point showing against UMSL was uncharacteristic, as the Saints have had one of the more explosive offenses in the league this year at 74.4 points per game, third-best in the GLVC. Maryville is led by three double-digit scorers: Mary Barton (14.5 pg), Kayla Steward (12.8 pg) and Stephanie Sherwood (10.2 pg).

Turnover margin has been key to the Saints' success this year. At plus-3.6 per game, Maryville is second in the GLVC in that department, trailing only Drury, the top-ranked team in the country.

Both games will be streaming on glvcsn.com and the GLVCSN mobile app. Live stats are available on rockhursthawks.com.
