Southern Indiana jumped out to a big lead in the first half on the way to posting an 86-64 victory over Rockhurst Thursday night at Mason-Halpin Field House.
The Screaming Eagles held a 9-3 lead in the opening quarter before six straight points from
Madeline Ronshausen evened the score, but it was all USI the rest of the way. The Eagles opened up a 28-11 lead behind a 19-2 run to end the first quarter.
USI carried momentum from the aforementioned run into the second quarter where they outscored the Hawks 25-13, taking a 53-24 halftime lead.
Ronshausen led the Hawks with 14 points. The junior guard reeled in a team-high five rebounds and also led Rockhurst in assists with three.
Morgen Smith added 10 points on four-of-five shooting.
Lauren Krissman tallied eight points and four rebounds, while
Hailey Dolphin scored seven points.
Tracy Monahan added six points and four rebounds.
Rockhurst won the second half, outscoring the Eagles 40-33. They will look to build on that when Bellarmine visits Mason-Halpin Field House Saturday (1:00 p.m.).
