Hawks keep Knights at bay, win in three sets

The 14th-ranked Rockhurst Hawks defeated Bellarmine in three sets (25-22, 25-19, 25-21) Saturday at Mason-Halpin Field House.

Karli Reichert led the Hawks in kills with 11. Alyssa Woodman added eight kills, while Emma Kriete, Emily Matio, and Mary Rolf each collected seven kills.

Senior libero Kalie Arnold kept plays alive, tallying 14 digs. Dani Prusha set up Hawks' hitters all afternoon, finishing with a team-high 32 assists while also adding 10 digs.

Set One: Rockhurst 25, Bellarmine 22
The Hawks jumped out to a 17-7 lead in the opening set. Bellarmine fought back, trimming the lead to two at 23-21. A Reichert kill for the Hawks' 24th point swung momentum back in Rockhurst's favor and helped shut the door on the Knights' comeback attempt.

Set Two: Rockhurst 25, Bellarmine 19
The Hawks struck early again, scoring five of the first six points in the second set. The were no ties or lead changes as Rockhurst kept the Knights at arm's length the whole set. The lead grew as large as seven at 24-17.

Set Three: Rockhurst 25, Bellarmine 21
After leading wire-to-wire in the second set, the third set wasn't as comfortable for the Hawks. Bellarmine jumped out to a 6-3 lead and would up the margin to five at 16-11. After a timeout by Coach Tracy Rietzke, Rockhurst responded with six of the next seven points to take an 18-17 lead, and they never looked back.

Player of the Match: Emily Matio. The reigning GLVC Offensive Player of the Week was a threat at the net again today, contributing seven kills and six blocks.
