Hawks fall at Maryville, 2-1

The Rockhurst women's soccer team dropped its first conference road match of the season, 2-1, at Maryville Friday afternoon in St. Louis.

Stephanie Ostrander got the Hawks on the board in the 20th minute, tapping in a Jillian Leetch corner kick from three yards out. The Hawks took that 1-0 advantage into halftime, but momentum swung the Saints way early in the second.

Alex Johnson found the back of the net for Maryville on a strike from the top of the box in the 57th minute to level the score 1-1. The Saints broke through again in the 82nd minute when Mariah Loya knocked in a rebound from 10 yards out to put the home team in front.

Maryville outshot Rockhurst 14-10. Ostrander led the Hawks with three shots. Jillian Leetch added two shots.

Rockhurst earned seven corners, cashing in on one, but couldn't quite find the late equalizer they needed.

Goalkeeper Megan Meyers collected five saves for the Hawks.

The defeat drops Rockhurst to 4-4-1 and 3-2 in the GLVC. They are back in action Sunday at Missouri S&T at noon.
