Rockhurst men suffer first loss of the season at Mesa

Zach Bodeau won 16 faceoffs and had a team-high eight ground balls.

Box Score Colorado Mesa scored seven goals in the second period on the way to a 13-8 victory over Rockhurst in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game Tuesday night in Grand Junction, Colorado.

The third-ranked Mavericks scored the last six goals of the first half and the first three goals of the second half to take a 10-2 lead early in the third period. The Hawks scored five goals in the fourth period.

Drake O'Neill paced the Hawks with three goals. Sam Lindahl and Collin Fischer each posted two goals. Jake Martin tallied two assists.

Rockhurst outshot Mesa, 50-40. O'Neill led the Hawks with 12 shots. Lindahl had nine shots, while Fischer and Kai Trujillo each collected six shots.

Zach Bodeau won 16 faceoffs and had a team-high eight ground balls. Connor Bateman and Brady Noernberg each had six ground balls. Alex Pfeil finished with eight saves.

The Hawks (5-1, 1-1 RMAC) play at Adams State on Thursday.
