Box Score Curtis Lewis scored 17 of his game-high 29 points in the second half to lead Rockhurst to a 75-70 victory over Southern Indiana Saturday at RU's Mason-Halpin Field House.
Lewis put the Hawks in front for good when he converted on a three-point play to give Rockhurst a 68-65 lead with 1:47 left. The freshman guard added five free throws in the final 22 seconds to secure the Hawks' first win over Southern Indiana since 2007 and second win ever over the Screaming Eagles.
"I am very proud of our team today,"Â said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener. "We have some very coachable guys that have executed our game plan great again today. We made big plays late in that game. That's a great team and great program; it's a great win for our program."
Quinton Curry posted 17 points and eight rebounds. Auston Rushing sank three 3-pointers to finish with nine points. Eddie Muench scored eight points off the bench. Alex Hagan collected seven points and a team-high nine rebounds. Lewis added seven assists and six rebounds.
Lewis and Curry combined for 22 points to help give the Hawks a 39-36 halftime lead. Lewis gave the Hawks an eight-point lead, 57-49, with a layup with 8:30 remaining.
Rockhurst shot 50.0 percent from the field (28 of 56) and 30.0 percent from behind the 3-point line (six of 20). Southern Indiana made 26 of 53 field goals (49.1 percent) and four of 13 3-point shots (30.8 percent).
The Hawks (13-13, 6-10 GLVC) play at Drury on Thursday.
