Ronshausen leads Hawks past Adams State

Rockhurst defeated Adams State 54-49 Wednesday afternoon in Alamosa, Colorado. Madeline Ronshausen led the way with a game-high 23 points (seven-of-12 on field goals and 7-of-8 on free throws) and tied for the team lead in rebounds (five) and assists (two).

Three players scored six points: Kaci German, Rachel Holden and Morgen Smith. Holden and Smith each reeled in five rebounds. Lauren Krissman was active with four steals and four rebounds.

The Hawks led 10-8 after one quarter and opened the second quarter on an 8-1 run sparked by three-pointers from Ronshausen and Briahtia Sebek. The lead would grow as large as 10 before Adams State pulled within six at the half, 30-24.

A 6-0 spurt stretched the Hawks' lead to nine late in the third quarter. The Grizzlies would claw back in the fourth quarter as a 9-0 run put the home team ahead 49-47 with 4:20 remaining. The Hawks tightened up defensively as Adams State wouldn't score another point the rest of the way.

A Morgen Smith layup evened the score at 49. Rockhurst regained the lead as Ronshausen split a pair of free throws at the 2:58 mark. The junior guard from St. Louis extended the lead to three with a jumper on the Hawks' ensuing possession. Stepping to the line up three with 12 seconds left, Ronshausen put the game on ice, sinking both free throws to seal the victory.

Player of the Game: Madeline Ronshausen. The Hawks' shooting guard tallied 23 points and came up clutch late in the fourth quarter. It was deja vu for the Grizzlies as Ronshausen also scored 23 points in Rockhurst's win over Adams State on Nov. 9.
