Hawks fall at home to seventh-ranked Jennies

Rockhurst fell to seventh-ranked Central Missouri 84-67 Monday night at Mason-Halpin Field House.

Marisa Lowe led the Hawks with a game-high 24 points on eight-of-15 shooting from the floor, including six-of-11 from three-point range. Madeline Ronshausen dropped in 22 points, including four three-pointers.

The Hawks started out hot, opening up a 16-7 lead as Lowe drained three triples in the first four minutes of the game. The momentum shifted quickly though as the Jennies rattled off 18 straight points to surge ahead 25-16.

Rockhurst weathered the storm and tightened up defensively in the second quarter, holding UCM to five-of-14 from the floor (35.7 percent). The Jennies took a seven-point lead into halftime, 41-34.

Another Lowe three-pointer pulled the Hawks within four early in the third quarter at 41-37, but the defending national champion Jennies responded with a 20-8 run. The deficit grew as large as 28, but the Hawks played with pride until the final buzzer, ending the game on a 12-1 run.

Player of the Game: Marisa Lowe. After a strong showing in the previous game at Quincy (15 points, three-of-six from three, six-of-eight FTs), Lowe carried that momentum into tonight, scoring 24 points. The redshirt junior from Omaha, Nebraska kept the Hawks within striking distance in the first half, sinking shots from all over.
