Hawks fly past Quincy with big second half

Rockhurst notched its first conference win of the season, taking down Quincy 74-67 Saturday afternoon in Quincy, Illinois.

Four Hawks scored in double figures: Madeline Ronshausen (23), Marisa Lowe (15), Briahtia Sebek (14) and Lauren Krissman (11). The foursome shot a combined 11-for-19 from three-point range.

A Ronshausen three with 24 seconds left in the first quarter gave Rockhurst an 18-13 lead after the opening 10 minutes. The Hawks went cold in the second quarter and fell behind 39-25.

But then it began to rain threes in Pepsi Arena. Lowe hit a triple at the end of the second quarter and then opened the third period with another three to pull the Hawks back within single digits, and Rockhurst kept rolling from there. A 37-9 run propelled the Hawks from 14 down to 14 points ahead. In the tide-turning run, Rockhurst drilled seven three-pointers, six of which coming from Lowe and Sebek (three apiece).

The Hawks enjoyed a 62-48 lead early in the fourth quarter, but Quincy didn't go away quietly. An 11-3 run pulled the home team back within six, 65-59, with just over three minutes to play. QU got as close as five with 17 seconds left, but a pair of Ronshausen free throws shut the door on Quincy, and Larry Park's Hawks escaped with a big GLVC road win.

Player of the Game: Madeline Ronshausen. The junior guard from St. Louis drained shots from all over, going seven-for-14 from the floor, three-for-six from beyond the arc, and six-for-six from the charity stripe.
